Pasture regeneration
This two-year-old agroecological experiment on São Miguel Island highlights the region's potential, even in the face of challenges such as strong winds, steep slopes and strong exposure to the sun. Using plants as true allies, they promote natural shading, ground cover to retain moisture and natural barriers to protect against the wind. Techniques such as swales and planting on contour lines combat erosion and ensure greater water retention in the soil.
With this initiative we are transforming a pasture area into an agroforestry system, thus promoting a significant increase in biodiversity and productivity in the area. As with all our interventions, the inclusion of native species also stands out, reinforcing the ecological balance and preserving the region's natural heritage.
